‘The Leather Jacket’

I was in the middle of one of a series of meetings with Julie about ‘The Tweed Jacket’, Yvonne had popped into the gallery for a card…

What she saw and heard had obviously had an impact as a few weeks later she put forward the idea of making a tote bag out of a much loved, beautiful leather jacket that had been a favourite of her husband’s.

A  new series of discussions began, a very important part of ‘the transformation’; alterations can be made to sizes, shapes or indeed the route I have taken with design. Sometimes the image I create from a person’s description is wholly inaccurate so it is good to keep checking.

A case in point - Yvonne had asked for ‘a nod’ towards her husband’s favourite team colours- claret and sky blue, I started upon a lining for the bag in blue felt but Yvonne really disliked this and we  were able to change this to a claret lining with a hint of blue in some piping in the seams. It’s important. To get it just right.
